Needing Light
… Every time I stepped on a plane, this encyclopedia of dark knowledge would start running through my mind. I would never ever choose a window seat but if by some misfortune I was assigned one, I would nicely offer it to the centre person. Left to me, the window shutter would forever remain pulled down. As much as possible, I would try not to look through the window.

Forgiveness and Retribution
The young man had grown up in an abusive home. He was raised by his stepfather who was a strict disciplinarian. He would beat him with extension cords and pieces of wood and with every beating, would tell him “I did it because I love you. It hurt me more than it hurt you son”. This communicated a wrong message about the meaning of love to him. For many years, he thought love was supposed to hurt.

The Gardener
… Eventually, my flowers started to shoot but so did the weeds. The weeds seemed to be multiplying faster than the flowers. Some of them were really prickly and had roots going deep. You couldn’t just pull them out! Some started looking like tomato plants and I actually caught my mum watering the “tomatoes” one day

In a Lockdown
Please, can someone get my husband out of my kitchen! How much longer do we have of this lockdown? It is the 21st of May 2020. As I write, I am actually laughing. I just went down stairs for a cup of tea but couldn’t find any of the tea stuff. Everything seemed to have disappeared; the tea tin, sugar tin, coffee tin and biscuit tin. Instead of getting upset, I just started searching.

The Journey of Life
The water started out cold but was fast getting hot, very hot. I tried to be adept, holding the sponge and keeping my fingers out of the boiling water but was not very successful. I got scalded and jerked my hand away. In my mind I thought, “wow hell is not a place to go to”.

Inspired by a Picture
The Joneses Next Door; I once thought that family really existed. I first came across them as a young girl reading romantic novels about people who were always comparing their lives with the Joneses next door. What a laugh when I realised it was just a figure of speech. So many lives have been destroyed by this infamous family who always seem to have it all together.

Against all Odds
At ten, Lisa was confused. It was so strange having to dress all grown up just to get some baby milk. Walking in mum’s “shoes” was not the most comfortable of experiences. She almost fell over twice trying to keep her balance. It was a walk she would live to remember for the rest of her life. Her mum passed away while she was gone. Lisa was left alone with a two week old baby, oversized slippers, a neck purse and a jar of milk. She was inconsolable.

Nurturing
It goes without saying that we are products of our “school of nurturing”. It forms us without our ever realising it. It makes the difference between succeeding and failing in life. I didn’t realise this great fact until much later in life, after suffering many years of frustrations and misery.

A Very Strange thing Happened Last Christmas
A very strange thing did not happen last Christmas. It happened a few years ago in 2006. That was my first Christmas in the UK since relocating and I got the shock of my life. We had just moved and were barely settled into our modest flat before it was Christmas. That day was quiet, cold and miserable. No one visited us and we didn’t visit anyone either; besides the public transport system wasn’t running. Suddenly, the carol “Silent night, holy night” made absolute sense.

Life of a moose
My life this past month has certainly been like the mooses’ horn, all over the place. It seemed everything that could have gone wrong, did. Was it our business, my health, an accident with my car, the finances!! The list is endless.
